Mankind has destroyed the beautiful world that God has blessed us with in satisfying their lust for gold and glory. We speak much about changing the world but never do enough. While it is true that words are powerful, time to talk alone is dying. It is time to simply do what we have talked about. Speech needs to be followed by the work of our hands for change to happen.

The main problem that we need to address is the global collapse of the environmental, economical and social systems. It can be said that no real, effective action is taken to solve these problems. If any action is effective, an improvement will be seen. However it seems like matters are getting worse. How can we change this?

The problem can only be solved when we awaken as one. We are fast asleep in our box of ignorance and indifference to the consequences of our greed. Mankind needs to unite, share, and serve to change our reality. We USM architecture students must initiate. With our limited knowledge and ability, we should serve the community for its betterment. If we cannot yet offer our knowledge, at least we can offer our hands and feet.

Through this mentality shift, we hope to see a change for the better that will result in sustainable living. We especially want to see change in the attitude of the general public in realising their responsibility to heal the world. It is time for all Malaysians to awaken our consciousness from being blinded by carnal longings.

Our power to change the world, Malaysia and USM is limited as we are a small number. However as long as we unite and initiate, others will follow. We believe in the ripple effect. Also, all that we begin, we must finish. Sustainable living isn’t just for us while we are students here in USM but we should bring it with us to our graves.
